About Luanne Nelson

As a professional photographer, Luanne has a keen eye for balance, design and symmetry. Her educational background includes English literature and creative writing at Westminster College in Pennsylvania and Journalism at Marquette University in Wisconsin.

Now year-round Alaskan residents, Luanne and her husband Dave fell in love with Alaska’s ever changing beauty – the light, the colors, the amazing geography, and the spectacular skies – the day of their very first drive over Baycrest into Homer. Their hearts and imaginations were captured; there was no turning back. The “ooohs” and “ahhhs” at the magnificence of Alaska continue daily.

As joy shared is twice the joy, they wanted to share the splendor of Alaska with others. After sending countless emails and photos to friends and family members outside of Alaska, Luanne was encouraged to build a photography website to showcase and to share Alaskan photographic adventures.

Luanne’s photography is displayed at Fireweed Gallery in Homer and her Little Chickadee was showcased at the Art Shop Gallery during the Shorebird Festival. Luanne also enjoys painting in abstract, influenced by the horizontal lines of expressionist painter Mark Rothko and the shadows of American realist painter Edward Hopper. The emphasis on composition instead of subject is evident especially in her ocean and horizon photographs called “The Colors of Water”.
